BANGING, WEEDING & TEACHING

Constantly I am seeing the posts. “Hiring, will train.” “Hiring, sign on bonus” “Hiring, please we will do anything.” Ok, maybe the last is an exaggeration but the posts are sounding more and more desperate everyday. I get it. At one point, we had seven teachers in The Yoga Casa family. Now we have three. Never being able to find enough help appears to be the burden of owning a business (I’m learning).

At one point I had teachers banging down my door. Constantly emailing, calling and begging for a chance to interview. It’s been awful quiet in the house lately!
I’m realizing now how much I miss the pounding at the door. There is always, a silver lining of course. My loss of teachers has left me with the cream of the crop! They are grand!
“And though she be but little, she is fierce.” Good one, Shakespeare.
Thich Nhat Hahn says that we don’t appreciate not having a toothache until we have one. Then once it is gone, we forget entirely that there was a time that we had one. In other words, we don’t enjoy the good times (when our teeth don’t hurt.) So I’d like to focus on these good times, when our clan is small yet mighty.
I’ll start with our newest family member, Breanne. Can she light up a room?! She once walked into book club and I swear the room was cracking up just based on her entrance. Bam! She can make me smile so fast. It’s no surprise to me that she works with some of the toughest teens in Fort Worth. I bet she brightens their days too. I love that I never have to worry about being judged by Breanne. She loves people just as they are. I love that she puts time, attention and themes that only a school teacher could create into her yoga classes. She’s our newest yet a brilliant shining star in the Yoga Casa crew.
Sheila! There’s probably so much you don’t know about Sheila. That’s because she is the one who is always listening and questioning. She listens to me blab on about this or that and always makes me feel like what I have to say is the most important thing she has heard all day. The ultimate caregiver, she treats each class she teaches like a delicate sprout she is working to grow into a tree. Before that tree reaches maturity she’ll know every specific detail about it too. When Sheila started teaching Restore, she became a world class expert in the field. But you would never know it. She’s humble and kind. Never one to boast, always there to support her people. Her strength is hidden. Don’t be fooled. She’s a warrior in more ways than one.
Last but certainly not least is my partner in crime, Tiffany. When Tiffany approached me about teaching, it was like the skies parted. I mentioned that I’m not necessarily the divine/woo/metaphysical type but even I was impressed at how fate seemed to have brought Tiffany to us. It was like she willed it to be so and the universe fell in line. It might be her undying optimism or unshakeable smile but what Tiffany manifests, it happens. She is my ultimate helper, taking on tasks that I have neglected for months and knocking them out in minutes. She is consistent, persistent and patient. Always willing to give advice when needed but never overstepping. No matter life's challenges, I know she will overcome them because of the tenacity and limitless love she radiates.
What a gift we have been given to have this “little” but “fierce” team to lead us into a new year. I can’t wait to see what this next year brings. In the meantime (since the next two Fridays are pretty major days)…HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! I hope this time is relaxing (yes, RELAXING), fulfilling and fun. Enjoy your families, stay safe and sneak a little yoga in when you can.
Much love from The Yoga Casa family,
Me (Lora), Breanne, Sheila and Tiffany
